What is real estate media? A guide for Auckland agents.

Real estate media explained: photography, video, drone, twilight, floor plans, 3D tours and reels — what each does for an Auckland listing and when to use it.

Living room with a fireplace, timber ceiling and sea view in Mission Bay

“Real estate media” is the set of visuals used to market a property for sale: the photos on the portals, the video, the aerials, the floor plan, the virtual tour and the content that goes out on social media. Ten years ago most listings had a photo gallery and little else. Today buyers expect to understand a home before they visit, and each kind of media answers a different question for them.

Real estate photography

Photography is still the foundation. It’s what buyers scroll through first on Trade Me and realestate.co.nz, and it usually decides whether they click into the listing at all. Good real estate photography shows each room at its true size, keeps colour accurate and window views visible, and reads as one consistent set from the street to the back garden.

Video

A property film shows what photos can’t: how the home flows from room to room, where the light falls and what it feels like to arrive. Video works especially well for premium homes, homes with a strong lifestyle story, and campaigns that will run on social media.

Drone and aerial

Drone photography shows the land, the boundary, the outlook and the neighbourhood. It matters most for larger sections, homes with views, and new-build streets where houses look alike from the road.

Twilight

Twilight photography is shot from golden hour into dusk with the interior lit. It’s often used as the hero image — the first photo buyers see — because it stands out in a page of daylight listings.

Floor plans and 3D tours

A floor plan answers the layout questions photos can’t: how rooms connect, where the bedrooms are, whether the furniture will fit. A 3D virtual tour goes further, letting buyers walk through the home room by room from anywhere — useful for out-of-town buyers and larger homes.

Social reels

Vertical reels turn the listing into content for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, and keep the agent visible between campaigns.

Why it works best as one campaign

Booking each of these from a different supplier means more appointments for the vendor, more coordination for the agent, and media that doesn’t look like it belongs together. Capturing everything in one visit keeps the look consistent and the timing simple: at PK Visuals, photos, floor plans and aerials are usually delivered within 24 hours, and video and reels within 48 hours.

What does a typical listing need?

A standard family home is usually well served by photography, a floor plan and a few aerials. A premium home, a large section or a competitive market usually justifies video, twilight and a reel as well. If you’re not sure, send the address and we’ll suggest what the property needs — see our services or book a shoot.
